How Do I Read My Church's Fathom Financial Report?

Quick answer: Fathom is the reporting tool that turns your church's QuickBooks Online data into visual monthly financial reports — charts, trends, and plain-English summaries of income, expenses, and cash position. Watch the short walkthrough video below for a guided tour of the report.

What Fathom Is

Your church's bookkeeping lives in QuickBooks Online (QBO)Fathom connects directly to QuickBooks and translates those numbers into a visual report designed for people who aren't accountants — ministers, board members, and treasurers who need to understand the church's financial health at a glance without digging through a general ledger.

Because Fathom pulls straight from QuickBooks, the report always reflects the same official numbers as the church's books.

What the Report Shows

A typical Fathom report includes:

  • Income and giving trends — how tithes, offerings, and other income compare month to month and against prior years

  • Expense breakdowns — where the church's money is going, by category

  • Cash position — how much cash the church has and how it's trending

  • Budget vs. actual — how spending compares to what the board approved

Good to Know

  • Fathom reports are typically prepared and shared on a monthly cycle after the books are closed for the month.

  • If a number in the report raises a question, note the report section and month — that makes it fast to trace the underlying detail in QuickBooks.

  • Board members who want to go deeper than the Fathom report can request access to QuickBooks Online itself. (See the article "Can I Get Access to View Our Church's Transactions?")

Login & Access
